⭐ ⭐ ⭐ ⭐ ⭐ "Ron was definitely the right surveyor for my boat pre-purchase project. The boat I’m considering is an early ‘70s era fiberglass coastal cruiser. Many built during that time are now plagued with serious gelcoat blisters, delamination, seeps and wet core. So my concern for this one is the condition of the laminate and the integrity of the hull. Another priority was to establish the true market value of the boat.
Using a couple of different inspection techniques, he discovered and mapped several small areas and one 3’ by 5’ section where the outer skin has delaminated from the core. As he worked over the entire hull surface, he temporarily marked the margins of the bad areas he found. I then photographed those so that if I do buy the boat, I can easily identify where they are. Fortunately, all of them are above the waterline, so can be easily repaired. Surprisingly, there were few blisters on the bottom and only dime to quarter size, so are not a deal breaker. On the topside, he also identified several areas of soft deck that need attention. One of which is a correctable structural deficiency and the others are instances of delamination near poorly bedded deck hardware. All in all, considering the boat has been in the water for fifty years, the hull is pretty sound.
There were not many of this boat type built to begin with, so few examples remain and few sales transactions occur within a given year. Through my own effort, I wasn’t able to determine a fair market value that I had enough confidence in that I could use it to base a buy offer. However, using his access to sales databases that most of us can’t access, Ron produced more than two dozen records of past sales. Now armed with this hard data, I’m able to make the seller a fair offer and justify it with actual purchase prices, not unrealistic asking prices. This information alone was worth the cost of the survey for me.
Ron is a true pro. He’s got a casual style, but was focused and efficient throughout my survey. Easy to work with, fun to talk to, he will be the first guy I call for my next survey project."  Blue Agave
